A Message from Our Gold Sponsor
Did you know that Boone County is among the worst counties in the U.S. in helping poor children up the income ladder based on: segregation by income and race, income inequality, schools, rates of violent crime and number of two parent households? While that is a daunting statistic, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Columbia (BGCC) is doing amazing things to level the playing field for all children in our community.
Since 1997, BGCC has been providing a special place for children to learn and grow, serving nearly 700 kids and operating out of four locations. The Club is open during hours when kids are most likely to need a safe place to go – after school and during summer. The goal is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need help the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
Programs focused on such things as 1) character and leadership development 2) education, technology and career development 3) health and life skills 4) music, the arts and 5) sports, fitness and recreation are producing some stunning results. In 2014:
The sad news is more than 6,000 Columbia children need our help and the list is growing. Our heart cry is to Change Lives – one kid at a time. Please join us at the January QMB to celebrate the successes of our community children and be challenged to help us do more in the coming year!
